It has been a season of mostly ups with the occasional down for Saha Hurricanes – the grassroots boys’ team from Shrewsbury sponsored by Fast Amps.

Saha is one of the largest grassroots football clubs is in Shropshire, with more than 40 boys’ and girls’ teams ranging in age from Mini Stars aged five and six all the way through to U18s.  In total the club, which this year is celebrating its 40th anniversary, provides football opportunities for more than 600 local children with the support of more than 100 volunteer coaches.  The club is based in the same district of Shrewsbury as our headquarters at Darwin House and this season we decided to sponsor a new matchday kit and training jacket for the Hurricanes U13 boys team, one of three Saha teams in that age group.

It was a tricky start to the season for the Hurricanes as it navigated its first foray into 11-a-side football and despite improvements every week, they lost their first three matches of the season.  However, it wasn’t long before the Hurricanes found their feet and after taking delivery of their new kits, the team went on a stunning 10 game winning run, making it all the way to the semi-final of the Charity Cup – the furthest the team had ever gone in the competition in the five years since the team was formed.  Unfortunately, the dream of a first every final for the Hurricanes was dashed in a hard-fought semi-final against a team in the division above but the memories of the successful cup run will live long in the memory after a string a brilliant performances.

Hurricanes remain in the League Cup and are also top of their league with just a handful of games remaining. Weather permitting it should be an exciting end to the season with an opportunity for the team to complete their best ever season – with even the possibility of some silverware to cap a season to remember.
